MP Kerry Rea with Body Shop staff Trish and EmmaThe Body Shop staff have been busy this week, taking the huge red Humane Chains made by customers to local Members of Parliament (MP) right across Australia.
Each of the 63,000 Humane Chain links being delivered to an MP’s office or displayed in store symbolise a member of the MP’s community demanding an end to live sheep exports.
On Monday MP Ms Jodie Campbell and her staff met with The Body Shop team at the Launceston store in Tasmania.
On Tuesday The Hon. Alexander Somlyay from Queensland also went to meet with The Body Shop staff at his local store (pictured below) and saw over 1,600 links collected from local Maroochydore residents hanging from the ceilings. The Hon. Mr Somlyay watched a video during the meeting, which demonstrated why our live trade not only has negative impacts on animal welfare but it also on Australian jobs.
Later that day Labor MP Ms Kerry Rea received a delivery of 1,818 links to her office, made up of links from customers of Mt Gravit and Carindale stores in Queensland (as seen above). And just yesterday The Body Shop staff met Liberal MP The Hon. Bruce Billson of Frankston in Victoria.
All meetings went very well, with all MPs supporting the efforts made by staff and took on board the concerns from their constituents regarding live exports. In addition all MPs promised to either look further into the issue, question government and get back to staff with any responses they were unable to provide, or made a commitment to raise the issue within their party at upcoming parliamentary meetings.
Additional meetings are being held today with other MPs and more are scheduled for tomorrow and next week. We hope to see MPs representing the concerns of their community and pushing this issue towards the top of our Governments agenda. It’s time for live sheep export to end!

Yea they listen to the big chains like the body shop, but how about the years people in the industry have been fighting to stop live exports and ALL live exports not just sheep. The government will not do anything. good on you for making the effort, but the stupid farmers are always gunna be greedie and not think of the impact on jobs or buisnesses all over australia. and while the country gowers are against labour, mr rudd will prob do what he can to save votes
